John Gappa

John serves to foster environmental justice and bring joy and hope to marginalized communities in the Global South. After a professional career as a corporate executive and Chief Financial Officer, John embarked on an encore career in nonprofit leadership where he recently served as Interim CEO of Alight (f/k/a American Refugee Committee), an international humanitarian relief organization with operations in nineteen countries.

John currently serves as board chair for Questscope which serves marginalized youth and refugees in the Middle East. John recently served as board chair and board member for the Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness where he was active in protecting Minnesota’s waters from copper sulfide mining. John has also served as a Minnesota Zoo Foundation Trustee. John is an avid wilderness traveler and cabin owner on Minnesota’s Gunflint Trail.
