In Minnesota, our water is our strength. It’s our pride, our future, the subject of treaty rights and obligations, and the most fundamental resource on which we all rely. Together we are stewards of the headwaters of three famed watersheds -- the Mississippi, Lake Superior, and the Rainy River/ Boundary Waters.

Unfortunately, proposals from foreign mining conglomerates threaten each of these watersheds. Enormous foreign companies like Glencore, Rio Tinto, Teck, and Antofagasta all seek to conduct copper-nickel sulfide mining here, something that has never been done before in Minnesota.

We have prepared a sulfide mining briefing booklet with several goals: To help illustrate the differences between copper-nickel sulfide mining and the existing taconite mining industry in Minnesota; to provide an update on recent developments in Minnesota’s sulfide mining laws; to share an agenda for improving those laws; and to help you weigh the validity of the marketing rhetoric of an industry whose goals diverge from our own.

We invite you to download, read, and share the full booklet. The "Two-Page" button below will give you access to the full spread version of the booklet, which may be better for larger screen viewing. The "Printable PDF" button may be better for home printing or viewing on smaller screens. Thank you for your interest in this important issue!
