Vanya’s primary area of practice is Indian law. She represents tribal governments and their business partners in both litigation and transactions and is nationally recognized for her work. She also serves as a tribal-court judge for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. Vanya is an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe who grew up just a few miles north of her Tribe’s Pine Ridge Reservation in western South Dakota.
